Three Tennessee State Parks are within 15 minutes of the Cabins: Big RidgeCove Lake and Norris Dam are all favorites of ours for their beauty and variety of recreational activities offered by each. The Clinch River is well known by outdoorsmen for its ease of access and beauty. We are only 10 minutes away from the river - fishing, canoeing, and horseback riding are enjoyed by outdoor enthusiasts.

Norris Dam and Norris Lake are only a short distance away - you can be at Norris Dam in less than 10 minutes. Other areas of the lake are also easily accessible. Boating, fishing and camping are popular on Norris Lake - frequently noted as the cleanest Lake in the TVA Reservoir system. The area surrounding Norris Lake is primarily owned by TVA, the State of Tennessee and the City of Norris. There are numerous hiking and horseback riding trails. These trails afford the opportunity to hike or ride literally all day and still not cover them all.

The Museum of Appalachia

Our cabins are adjacent to the Museum of Appalachia, a living history museum that interprets the pioneer and early 20th-century period of the Southern Appalachian region of the United States. The museum has been named an Affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution, the Museum is a collection of more than 30 historic buildings rescued from neglect and decay and gathered onto 63 acres of picturesque pastures and fields. The museum also preserves and displays thousands of authentic relics, maintains one the nation's largest folk art collections, and hosts performances of traditional Appalachian music and annual demonstrations by hundreds of regional craftsmen.

The museum was established in the 1960s by John Rice Irwin, an East Tennessee educator and businessman, who has followed the basic philosophy of preserving not only structures and artifacts relevant to the region's history, but also preserving each item's individual history— who owned it, when and how it was created or obtained, and how it was used. These oral histories and recollections are housed, along with thousands of photographs, in the museum's archives. Starting from a single log structure, the museum has grown over four decades to include buildings such as the National Register of Historic Places-listed Arnwine Cabin, a rare Appalachian cantilever barn, and a cabin once inhabited by the parents of author Mark Twain. Relics on display include items owned by several notable or colorful Appalachian natives and thousands of tools detailing all aspects of rural life in Southern Appalachia. The museum's grounds mimic a working pioneer Appalachian farm, with gardens growing typical crops and animals such as goats, chickens, turkeys, and peacocks roaming the grounds freely.

Boating and watersports on Norris Lake

Norris Lake proudly boasts the cleanest water in the TVA Lake system. As local residents, we are keenly aware of this and feel fortunate to be so close to the Lake. Water-skiing, swimming, picnicking and camping on Norris Lake are featured activities for summertime fun. One of life's truly enjoyable experiences is to wake up early in the morning on the Lake - the quiet, the early morning dew, the stirring of the animals along the placid lake waters are simply breathtaking.

Local crafts at The Museum of Appalachia, Lenoir Museum, and Appalachian Arts Craft Shop and Center

The Museum of Appalcahia, Lenoir Museum, and the local craft guild contain many samples of crafts and goods produced by local artists and craft hobbyists. The Norris area is home to authors, sculptors, potters, poets, singers, and photographers who share their work with visitors to our area.
